These low-calorie chips may be just what the doctor ordered. Apples contain the antioxidant quercetin, which helps boost your immune system. The fruit can also regulate blood sugar and reduce cholesterol.

INGREDIENTS

SERVES 4

  • 2 medium Honeycrisp Apples
  • 1/8 tsp Ground Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tbsp Cinnamon, Ground
  • 1/4 tbsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/8 tbsp Spices, cardamom
  • 1/8 tbsp Cloves, Ground
  • 1/8 tsp Nutmeg (Ground)
  • 1 tbsp Powdered Peanut Butter
  • 1 tbsp Malted drink mix, natural, powder, prepared with whole milk

DIRECTIONS

1 Preheat oven to 225 degrees Fahrenheit.
2 Use a mandolin to slice apples crosswise about ⅛-inch thick, removing seeds as you slice.
3 Line two baking sheets with parchment paper. Moisten paper with olive oil or canola spray.
4 Layer slices on sheets, cover each sheet pan with a baking rack and layer remaining slices on the racks.
5 Bake for 1½ hour. Flip and bake for 1 more hour until slices are crisp. Remove and let cool.
6 In a small bowl, mix chai spice, peanut butter powder and malt powder.
7 Spoon mixture into a sieve and gently tap over the surface of the apple chips. Place on a plate and serve.
