Butter-Free Turmeric Popcorn

Because of its brilliant color, turmeric is also used as a natural dye for fabrics, and to enhance the yellow color of foods like butter, cheese and mustard. Recipe courtesy of registered dietitian Robin Foroutan.



  • 1/2 cup White Popcorn Kernels
  • 3 tbsp Olive Oil, Extra Virgin
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric


1 Begin to heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat and add turmeric.
2 Add a few kernels to oil to test the heat and cover.
3 Once they pop, add the remainder of the popcorn kernels, cover again and shake the pot.
4 Remove from heat for about 45 seconds.
5 Put back on medium heat and cook, shaking the pot occasionally, until the popping sound stops (about 4-5minutes).
